More Farmers Plan To Use Drones This Growing Season

New Poll Shows Increasing Number Of Farmers Embracing The Technology

A new poll from AgWeb shows that 33 percent of farmers responding to the poll plan to begin using drones this operating season. In a "Pulse Poll" taken by the website, farmers were asked "Will you use drone(s) in your operation this year?"

Of the 1,100 farmers responding to the poll, 21 percent said they would operate the aircraft themselves, while another 12 percent said they would hire third-party operators to patrol their fields.

Another 31 percent said they would consider using the aircraft during the 2108 growing season. The rest said they have no plans to incorporate drones into their operations.

The website said the results of the poll show that UAVs have gained a strong foothold in the agribusiness community.

The Farm Journal Pulse polls farmers and ranchers for their straight-from-the-farm opinions and crop progress updates.

According to the NAFB news service, a forecast from RnR Market research shows that the UAV market in agriculture will grow to $3.69 billion by 2022. The forecast said the driving factors are transparency in agribusiness provided by drones, as well as higher productivity and improved efficiency.
