Top Officers Of Pilots Union Censured By APA Board

Infighting Hardly Makes Union Look Unified

The Allied Pilots Association board passed a resolution Thursday censuring union president Lloyd Hill and vice president Tom Westbrook, accusing the duo of "frequently failing to adhere to the policies, directives, and resolutions of the board of directors."

While the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports the resolution doesn't spell out the details of the situation, board members have been unhappy with aggressive tactics voiced by the union leaders, including plans to stage walkouts designed to cause delays on certain flights.

Seen both as infighting and the first public action taken by the board against the union leaders, the resolution was passed at Thursday's board meeting with no comment from board members. Union leaders are elected by the union members, but are responsible to the board.

Union spokesman Sam Mayer said that after the vote, Hill and Westbrook met in a private session with the board. "I wasn't in the session, so I don't know anything beyond that," he said.

Westbrook refused to comment on the proceedings, saying only, "This is internal politics, basically, so it probably wouldn't be appropriate for me to comment."
