Gulfstream’s New Super-Midsize Jet Logs First Flight

G300 Kicks Off Test Campaign With a Successful 2 Hour 25 Minute Flight

Gulfstream’s newest addition to its next-gen lineup, the super-midsize G300, is officially airborne. The G300 was unveiled just two months ago in Savannah, instantly sliding in as Gulfstream’s fresh entry into the super-midsize market.

The jet logged its maiden flight on December 5, lifting off from Ben Gurion International Airport (TLV) at 8:05 am and staying in the air for 2 hours and 25 minutes. The crew took the aircraft to 30,000 feet and cruised at Mach 0.75, checking off the major boxes needed to kick off the flight-test campaign.

“Achieving first flight at this stage in the program is a remarkable achievement,” said Gulfstream President Mark Burns. “With its combination of safety, technology, performance and cabin comfort, the G300 is a game changer for the super-midsize category,” he added, noting that one of its main selling points is “large-cabin features in a mid-cabin aircraft.”

To its credit, the G300 leans heavily into comfort. Gulfstream says the cabin is the largest in the segment, paired with ten panoramic oval windows across its two living areas. The layout seats up to ten passengers, includes a full galley, and comes with plenty of space for bags.

Cabin altitude tops out at 4,800 feet while cruising at 41,000 feet, and the air system pumps in 100% fresh air using plasma ionization to keep things clean and quiet. Up front, the G300 uses Gulfstream’s Harmony Flight Deck, complete with six touchscreens and Phase-of-Flight logic that organizes information based on what the crew is doing.

Range numbers put the G300 in competitive territory. It can fly 3,600 nautical miles at Mach 0.80 or 3,000 nm at Mach 0.84, thanks to a clean Gulfstream wing and a pair of Honeywell HTF7250G engines.

Before the jet ever left the ground, the program logged more than 2,000 hours of testing, covering everything from structural checks to systems integration. Two more G300 test aircraft are already in production and will join the campaign as certification ramps up through 2025.
