Airborne 08.24.18: uAvionix Refutes Garmin, Top Gun 2, MGL Avionics

Also: AF Reserve's First 4-Star, Flight School EatSleepFly, Ocean City MD v Helos, Liverpool Airport 'Chaos'

uAvionix has responded to the controversial Garmin lawsuit. uAvionix asserts that it has developed its own ADS-B technology.

"On June 19, 2018 Garmin International Inc. and Garmin USA Inc. sued uAvionix for patent infringement. Garmin alleges the uAvionix echoUAT and skyBeacon’s method of obtaining an installed transponder’s Mode 3/A code and altitude infringes their U.S. Patent No. 8,102,301 (“the 301 Patent”). "We do not infringe the 301 Patent" uAvionix says. "uAvionix has our own patent-pending method for using Mode 3/A and altitude information that differs from the method in the 301 Patent. We invite you to see for yourself." The long-anticipated sequel to the Tom Cruise movie "Top Gun" has started filming aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, according to the U.S. Navy. Filming began May 31, according to a photo posted to Cruise's Instagram account. Initial filming was done at Naval Air Station North Island in California. A film crew of 15 from Paramount Pictures and Bruckheimer Films embarked aboard the Lincoln on Sunday, and were scheduled to be on board for a week, according to Naval Air Force Atlantic spokesman Cmdr. Dave Hecht. The crew was filming flight deck and air operations, including F/A-18 Super Hornets from Virginia Beach-based Carrier Air Wing Seven working on carrier qualifications. The MGL Avionics Blaze range of 3 1/8" Color Singles has come to market. The Stratomaster Blaze range consists of fifteen 3 1/8" color display aviation instruments. Using a high-resolution IPS backlit color graphics display, these instruments provide excellent daylight readability, even in direct sunlight. Each instrument includes a rotary control plus 2 independent keys for easy menu navigation and to access specific instrument features. The Blaze range has a wide supply voltage range of 8 to 30 VDC with built in reverse and over voltage protection. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
