Senate Committee To Consider VA Flight Training Bill

Veterans Affairs Committee Holds Hearing Wednesday Afternoon

The Senate Veterans Affairs Committee will hold a hearing on a measure that could severely restrict GI Bill funds for veterans to get a flight-training college degree. A Discussion Draft of the bill will be taken up at a hearing Wednesday afternoon at 2:30pm EDT.

A House version of the bill capping funds available for flight training has moved out of committee and is awaiting action by the full House.

HAI said in a notice posted on its website that the association has been in contact with the committee staff and intends to submit a written statement for the record, which will be made available on rotor.org once it has been delivered to the committee.

Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-GA) chairs the committee. Other majority members include Sen. Jerry Moran (R-KS), Sen. John Boozman (R-AR), Sen. Dean Heller (R-NV), Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Sen. Mike Rounds (R-SD), Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC), and Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-AK).

Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) is the ranking minority member. Others in the minority include Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA), Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT), Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI), and Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV).
