Universal Weather Books ‘Em

By ANN Correspondent Rob Milford

The hot new bestseller for the NBAA-Orlando is about an inch thick, has more than 1470 pages of information, and could be considered priceless by the pilots, dispatches, and flight coordinators who will be using it.

It’s the UVTripPlanner (yes, all one word!) and according to Universals’ Randy Stephens, this cross-reference directory is a “first of it’s kind” to meld operational data, trip planning and every tool needed for international flight management. Stephens says “You can find all the customs, visa and passport information, as well as overflight information and ports of entry”

The section on airports draws the line at 3,900’, considered to be the minimum for turbine-powered aircraft, and combines that with updated information on FBO’s, and that will include their phone and fax, SITA and air-to-ground frequency, the fuel brand and the ICAO codes hooked to IATA and FAA designators.

In the travel planning section, you will also find a listing of al U.S. Embassies and Consulates, and the latest updates on security requirements, as well as agricultural information, plus a checklist to help the regular or the occasional international flyer avoid pitfalls that can ruin your entire adventure.

The airport section will also identify the Military, joint and private airports.

Publisher Stephens says that this volume is the product of “extensive research…we talked to hundreds of customers in the last two years, and asked a simple question: What do you want, and what do you need in a directory?”

For those working with electronic flight bags, take heart, because all of his information is being licensed to software makers, and will be updated on an annual basis. The book sells for $39.95 or 35 Euro, measures 8.5 by 5.5 and he best news of all… your copy is free at the Universal Weather booth (1441) through the convention.
