Robinson Publishes R22/R44 Service Letter for Lycoming Valves

Recent Lycoming Service Bulletin Covered Under Warranty (At Least for the Next 12 Months)

Owners of some R22 and R44 aircraft should take note of a recent service letter regarding Lycoming's lkatest foul-up with their engine's intake valve rotator caps. 

Affected aircraft include those R22-series Helicopters with O-360-J2As and R44-series Helicopters with O-540-F1B5 engines. Lycoming Service bulletin number 651 covers the issue, and should be complied with at the next scheduled maintenance event. For engines with less than 300 hours of use, the inspection may be deferred up to a maximum of 50 hours of operation, with those 300+ hour engines needing an inspection within the next 10 hours of operation. valves. 

The inspection will ensure that valve stem caps are installed on the rotator type intake valves, and will be covered under Lycoming warranty for 12 months following the bulletin's September 29th publication date. 

Robinson Helicopter Company has a limited number of the appropriate Lycoming intake valve rotator caps available for purchase at $34.75 should they be desired for current owners. Affected Robinson aircraft include R22 serial numbers 4840, 4845, and 4860 through 4873. R44s from 2667 to 2677 and 2679 through 2684 are affected. Finally, a small range of R44 Cadets are affected from serial numbers 30083 to 30087.
