Attention Pilots! FAA Recruiting Pilots for Research Study

All Medical Classes Needed for Cognitive Study at OSH 2024

The FAA is recruiting pilots for a PAID research study which it will carry out at the EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh 2024 in July. If you are planning to attend, the FAA would like you to sign up at the link below.

The study is approved by the FAA Institutional Review Board (IRB) which regulates research involving human subjects. Pilots who are eligible and participate will receive $300-$500 in the form of a prepaid gift card. The amount is dependent on the pilot’s medical privileges current at the time of participation.

Eligibility requirements are:

  1. Must have flown or logged simulator time within the last 6 months.
  2. ~160 pilots needed if you hold a FAA Class III medical and are 25+ years old.
  3. ~14 pilots needed if you hold a FAA Class I or II medical and are 60+ years old.

The study will take about 4 hours (with breaks) and will involve completing computerized tests related to multitasking performance, memory, attention, and mental rotation. The purpose is to obtain normative or baseline data for these particular tests.

Your personal information will not be linked with any test scores, and scores will be used in aggregate. The data gathered will be used to assure that aeromedical decision-making is driven by the most current data in the recertification of pilots following a medical incident involving stroke, head injury, or some medications.
