Cessna 421 Crashes in Austin, Two Dead, One Critical

Pilot reported engine trouble on the way to Bergstrom International Airport, didn't make it

Authorities have released the names of two people who died on Thursday after their Cessna 421C (C421B file photo below) crashed as it attempted to make an emergency landing.

Texas' Department of Public Safety have identified the dead as Palmer Swift Haines, 62,  of Camp Wood, and Margaret Cardwell, 82, of Austin. A second passenger, James Cardwell, 49 and also of Austin, is hospitalized in critical condition.

The twin crashed after developing engine trouble and trying to make Lakeway Airpark.  The flight originated from Angel Fire and was headed to Bergstrom International Airport when it diverted after reporting the emergency.
