Few Details Known About The Accident Involving A 1950s Era Chinese-Built Aircraft

An accident west of Vail, CO, Sunday morning fatally injured two people, according to media reports.

Television station KDVR in Denver indicates that the two men, identified by the Eagle County Coroner's Office as 70-year-old Christopher Hall of Edwards, CO, and 69-year-old Garfield Brown of Gypsum, CO, were aboard the Yakovlev Yak-18 manufactured in China in the 1950s. The two had departed Eagle County Regional Airport around 0800 local time, and the plane went down in the field near the Horse Mountain housing subdivision in Eagle County, CO, shortly after takeoff. It was discovered about 0830.

Hall was the registered owner of the Yak-18. No other injuries were reported. The weather at the time of the accident was clear skies and winds were calm.
