Destin, FL Tower Project To Be Re-Bid

Okaloosa County Board Of County Commissioners Noticed Discrepancies In The Bids Received

The Okaloosa County (FL) Board of County Commissioners voted last week to re-bid an air traffic control tower project after it noted discrepancies in the three bids that were received for the new structure.

The FAA accepted a plan for the new tower in its contract tower program in 2012. The 4,419-square-foot structure would be about six stories tall.

The meeting agenda package indicated that all three bids contained "mathematical errors and had differences which exceeded $500,000 between each total-as-read bid schedule."

The Destin Log reports that the county has also decided that it needs to "calibrate the scope of work with the FAA for the installation of the tower cab equipment,” according to Okaloosa County Airports Director Sunil Harman.

The county must also complete a small scale future land use map amendment and rezoning, as well as site and security drawings, before the project can be re-bid. Deputy Airports Director Tracy Stage said that process "can sometimes be lengthy."
