United adds Skyborne to Aviate Program

Cadet Program Expands to Another Florida Area Flight School

Vero Beach, Florida flight school Skyborne is the newest addition to the United Airlines Aviate program, a student pilot to first officer pipeline that sees student pilots through a track from their earliest training days to proper airline employment.

Skyborne is a part 141 FAA-certified flight school, as many in the Aviate program are. The consistency of timelines, the consistent pilot output, and the often constant cycling of fresh students make them attractive partners for an airline hoping to get its prospective pilots from zero time to 1,500 hours as soon as possible. In order to be accepted into the program, students must pass an interview with United. If selected, students obtain a conditional job offer and a United pilot mentor.Once rated, students will, as is common to many flight schools, move on to become flight instructors as they begin working towards the all-important 1500-hour requirement.

Skyborne breaks with convention for flight schools in their offer of a money-back guarantee for the successful completion of the school selection process and Private Pilot Certificate phase. Lee Woodward, CEO of Skyborne, says the school's addition to the program is a great way for students to streamline their career. “The United Airlines Aviate Program in partnership with Skyborne will immerse trainees in airline technique, custom and practice, equipping graduates with the skills to be truly flight deck ready.”

“In the US, air passenger numbers are now within 5% of 2019 levels* and in order to meet this demand for travel, the aviation industry needs focused initiatives like Aviate. United Airlines is leading the way in responding to the pilot shortage and we’re extremely proud this partnership will deliver the next generation of competent, professional and resilient airline pilots.”
