Classic Aero-TV: Center of Attention – Oshkosh Tower/AirVenture 2015

From 2015 (YouTube Version): No Matter What, You Can't Get To The BIG SHOW Without KOSH Tower!

It’s been said that during EAA AirVenture, the control tower at Wittman Regional Airport is the busiest tower in the world. In this video you have the chance to see how it works and to listen-in on some of the communications.

ANN reporter, Bruce Brandon, had the opportunity to interview, Elaine Buckner, who is the Air Traffic Manager at the EAA AirVenture control tower.

When Bruce asked if it’s really true this is the busiest control tower in the world, she replied that it is, and even more uniquely it does it without working a 24 hour schedule. As the interview continues you get a detailed look at how the tower actually operates, how controllers are trained, and how they are scheduled to do their jobs while maintaining a modicum of sanity.

EAA AirVenture is an exciting place to be, but it’s even more exciting to be part of the air traffic flying in-and-out of Wittman Regional Airport. Flying into Wittman Airport during EAA AirVenture is challenging and fun. However, it’s not something to be taken lightly, and pilots are urged to be sharp on their flying skills and plan ahead for all the action.

This is a great video and you may want to watch it more than once.
