NY State Firefighters Damage UAV Capturing Video Of A Fire

Sprayed The Aircraft With Water Hoses

Firefighters battling a blaze at a home in the village of Walden in Orange County, NY turned their hoses on a UAV being operated by someone recording the action, and reportedly damaged the aircraft's camera beyond repair.

The video of the event captured by hobbyist John Thompson was posted on YouTube. It shows the takeoff and aerial views of the firefighters working to extinguish the blaze, but late in the video, one firefighter standing on the deck at the back of the house turns his high pressure hose on the UAV, dousing it with water.

Thompson was able to fly his aircraft back to his location and land it safely, all of which was recorded. But according to The Smoking Gun, he posted on Facebook that when he tried to fly the aircraft again, the camera did not work, "so it looks like they destroyed a $2,200 drone."

Thompson has accused the firefighters for misconduct for taking aim at his aircraft.
