Testing Milestone Achieved On Honeywell Engine For Embraer Legacy 450/500 Jets

HTF7500E Engine Expected To Reduce Nitrous Oxide Levels By Up To 25 Percent

Honeywell has reached a flight testing milestone on what it says its most energy efficient engine ever, the HTF7500E. The engine powering Embraer’s Legacy series 450/500 business jets has completed approximately 20 flights and more than 140 test hours on Honeywell’s B757 flying test bed. With this milestone, the engine is on track to certify in 2012 on the Embraer platforms.

Honeywell is driving innovation across key performance points, with the HTF7500E including reduced fuel consumption, reduced engine mass and decreased emissions – all of which are critical areas of demand among customers. “Building on the phenomenal success of the HTF7000 series engine and its
impressive reliability level of more than 99.96 percent over one million flight hours, Honeywell’s new HTF7500E engine is set to follow suit,” said Ron J. Rich, vice president of propulsion at Honeywell Aerospace. “Importantly, it will provide the same reliability while significantly increasing energy efficiency and reducing emissions. All in all, it has exceeded our expectations for performance, reliability, emission reductions and sound output.”

Test flights will begin on Embraer’s Legacy 450 and 500 jets during the second half of this year.

To support the industry’s commitment to environmental efficiency, the HTF7500E features Honeywell’s Single Annular comBustor for Emissions Reduction (SABER) that reduces nitrous oxide emissions by up to 25 percent, to a level well below current International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) limits. The HTF7500E produces an acoustic signature well under prevailing regulatory noise limits to ensure that noise disruption during take-off in populated areas is minimized.

“Honeywell’s HTF7500E provides a best-in-class propulsion system for our Legacy 450 and 500 jets,” said Mauricio Alemeida, vice president, Programs- Executive Jets, Embraer. “Its advanced thrust combined with innovative emission reducing capabilities will deliver the strong and reliable performance we need for our world-class jets.”

The HTF7500E engine is configured with four axial compressor stages, a single centrifugal compressor, an effusion-cooled combustor, a two-stage high-pressure turbine and a three-stage low-pressure turbine driving a high-efficiency 34.2-inch fan and a bypass ratio of 4.2..The engine will be offered with an on-condition maintenance program from its first day in service. Honeywell is also supplying other components and systems for the Legacy 450 and Legacy 500 series aircraft. These include Honeywell’s Ovation Select Cabin Management System, 36-150 Auxiliary Power Unit, Environmental Control System and electronic fuel controls.
