PSE's PM1200: A Powerful Intercom Hits The Skies

PS Engineering has announced the creation of a powerful new intercom designed specifically for the loudest cockpits, such as found in Warbirds, aerobatic and open cockpit aircraft.

The PM1200 ($499.95 list, part number 11960) is a plug and play replacement for the PM1000II series intercom. This new unit offers either an IntelliVox® automatic intercom squelch, or push to talk intercom control, and is front panel controlled. IntelliVox® is a proprietary intercom protocol which uses a microcontroller to discriminate between background noise, and human voice, eliminating the need for manual VOX adjustments.

PSE's latest innovation, AMP™ (Active Microphone Processor), was designed to provide unprecedented intelligibility in otherwise impossible inter-cockpit communication conditions. Cockpits such as Stearman's, T-6's, T-28's, P-51's, Pitts S2-B, and even PV-2's will be tamed by the abilities of AMP™.

"We used the combination of IntelliVox® and AMP™ to focus the voice energy into the intercom system, and actually actively filter out unwanted noise." Said PS Engineering, Inc. President Mark Scheuer. "We conceived, designed and built the PM1200 for the open cockpit and Warbird marketplace. We used the microprocessors in the microphone system to filter and eliminate the majority of background noise coming from the microphone. We also developed the highest power audio amplifiers we have ever used because we know the importance of clear communication in today's airspace."

The remote version (part number 11961) is available for owners wanting to avoid the intrusion of modern electronics into a classic panel. All of the intercom controls, such as volume and intercom modes, can be remotely located and be unobtrusively mounted to match the aircraft style.

The 2-place, monaural intercom does have an entertainment input, with SoftMute™ capability.  The system can be expanded using the IntelliPAX™ unit, which has up to 6 stations and stereo music input.

The PM1200 features:

  • High-power output (120 mW @ 28 VDC)
  • Remote or blind mounting option
  • Backward compatible with PM1000II
  • Precise microphone performance with AMP and IntelliVox®
  • Music input
  • Front panel selectable VOX or ICS mode
  • 1-year warranty if installed by PS Engineering dealer or with PS Engineering made harness

Founded in 17 years ago, PS Engineering has a network of over 600 authorized dealer/installers worldwide.
