City of Lakeland Waives Sun 'n Fun Rent Payments

SnF Gets $330,397 Rent Break After SnF20 Cancellation

Following negotiation with the city of Lakeland, the non-profit Sun' n Fun organization will get a waiver of rent payments that will cover about a year's worth of payments for the fees normally paid for the use of the Sun 'n Fun campus.

Following extensive damage created by the COVID-19 pandemic and the cancellation of this year's event, the City Commission will waive $330,397 that would have otherwise been due to Lakeland Linder International Airport.

The Sun ‘n Fun Aerospace Expo normally brings in about $6 million for it's own programs... monies which reportedly support projects like the affiliated Central Florida Air Academy, Aerospace Center for Excellence and the Lakeland Aero Club.

The loss of the annual event reportedly harms these projects extensively... hence the reaction by the city, which assured their residents that they could absorb the costs.

Airport Director Gene Conrad reported that Sun ‘n Fun 'is in a precarious situation...' and that 'They will need a successful 2021 and 2022 to recover.'

The loss of the event is also a tough hit for the surrounding community, as the total economic impact of the Fly-In is estimated, by local media, to be in the neighborhood of $65 million.
