Bill Harrelson Seeks To Circumnavigate The Globe In World Record Time

Plans Flight Over North And South Poles In A Lancair IV

Now that Santa and his reindeer have put the sleigh back in the hangar for another year the skies are clear for LOBO (Lancair Owners and Builders Organization) member Bill Harrelson to attempt yet another world record.

His plan is to circumnavigate the Earth over the North & South poles in world record time. Bill departed Kinston, NC on 28 December 2014 in his purpose-built Lancair IV, N6ZQ, bound for Brazil on his first leg. Conditions are such that he may stretch the first leg enough to overfly Brazil, instead landing at Montevideo, Uruguay.

You can follow Bill's ground track and current position on the web. You can select a number of different map and satellite layers to better appreciate the terrain and flight conditions.

If Bill stays on schedule LOBO Board Member Bob Pastusek and his wife Judy will greet him on or around 5 January 2015, when he arrives at Fairbanks, AK. From Fairbanks, Bill will fly the last leg of his mission back to Kinston, NC.
