The DOT Take On O'Hare Talks

Conversations Are Continuing

Statement of Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta On O'Hare Schedule Reduction Meeting

Conversations between representatives of the US Department of Transportation's Federal Aviation Administration and airlines serving Chicago O'Hare International Airport continue.

I am pleased that the airlines have made some progress in addressing the serious congestion problem at O'Hare Airport, although more needs to be, and will be, done. Delays at O'Hare not only affect the nation's air traffic, they risk placing a bottleneck on the rapidly expanding economy. It is absolutely critical that every airline involved in these conversations participate in good faith and commit to doing what is necessary to keep travelers and the American economy moving.

We will continue conversations tomorrow and in the coming days if necessary. I remain hopeful that the airlines voluntarily reach a solution that truly eases delays at the airport and continues to fuel the economy.
