Travolta Will Fly 707 To Australia

Aircraft Being Donated To The Historical Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS)

The Boeing 707 that belongs to John Travolta but which was previously an airliner for Qantas is being returned to Australia after being donated by the actor the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS).

And Travolta plans to fly the plane to Australia himself, according to a report from the online publication Australian Aviation.

Travolta had always hoped to be part of the flight crew making the delivery since it was announced earlier this year. Last Tuesday, Bendigo Bank, which is sponsoring the effort, said on its Facebook page that "John Travolta will be coming to the Illawarra! He has confirmed he will be landing at Illawarra Regional Airport in the Boeing 707 he has donated to HARS and he wants to thank the local community for their support and interest in the HARS 707 Project.”

The airplane first flew for Qantas in 1964. In 1968, it was briefly in service with Braniff Airlines, then converted into a corporate jet in 1970. Travolta acquired the airplane in 1998.

In 2002, the 707 was repainted in its original Qantas livery, at which time the airline named the actor one of its official "ambassadors."

The airplane is currently being restored to airworthy status in preparation for the long trip from Florida to Australia.
