Ryanair Requests Two-Drink Limit For Passengers

Follows Investigation Showing Spike In Arrests Of Drunken Passengers

U.K. budget airline Ryanair has requested that airports in the U.K. limit passengers to two drinks prior to boarding, and not serving alcohol to passengers at all before 10 a.m.

Fox News reports that the request comes following a BBC Panorama Investigation report show a sharp spike in the arrests of drunken passengers, reportedly up 50 percent over last year.

Ryanair has already banned the consumption of duty-free alcohol on its flights, according to the report. Now, the low-cost carrier is calling for airports to change the way they do business with people getting ready to board an airliner. Ryanair Chief Marketing Officer Kenny Jacobs told the BBC that the airline is "calling for significant changes to prohibit the sale of alcohol at airports, particularly with early morning flights and when flights are delayed.”

Airlines are allowed to limit the amount of alcohol they serve to passengers, but they have no control over what they may consume prior to boarding a flight. Arrest data compiled by the Panorama investigation showed 225 more people were arrested between February 2016 and February 2017 than the same period the previous year.
