IADA Publishes 2023 Pre Owned Biz Plane Market Overview

Industry Continues to Normalize From Post-Pandemic Highs and Lows

The International Aircraft Dealers Association (IADA) published its 2023 report showing a fairly healthy preowned business aircraft market, but a modestly pessimistic member attitude.

In the IADA member survey, they found that 75% of respondents expect that "Mid-Size and larger jet pricing will fall and that inventories will continue to rise over the next 6 months". The biggest pricing shifts are expected to occur "at the top of the market in the Large and Ultra-Long-Range Jet Category."

More worrisome for those who want to shop around, "a similar pattern is anticipated regarding dealer willingness-to-inventory, with more than half expecting a decrease in willingness in the Mid-Size and larger jet segments." The IADA further notes that "about 85% of respondents believe that demand across the various aircraft size categories will remain relatively stable to slightly down", as the industry normalizes from the erratic sales patterns of the post-pandemic years.

IADA Chairman Phil Winters took a small victory lap for membership, whom he said accurately called the way 2023 would go.
“IADA members have been predicting a more stable marketplace for over a year, and the 2023 market performed as expected,” said Winters. “Our quantitative and proprietary sales data shows that buyers and sellers are coming together with regard to asking and offering prices, a positive change from the overheated conditions we’ve seen since the onset of the pandemic."
