A new rule recently announced by the FAA increases qualification requirements for first officers who fly for U.S. passenger and cargo airlines, but includes allowances for reduced hours for pilots holding Bachelor’s degrees from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Daytona Beach, FL, and Prescott, AZ, campuses. Students at Embry-Riddle also have another advantage – access to full-motion simulation training like no other university in the United States.

Runway 16R/34L Closed 24-Hours Per Day July 17– 26
A 24-hour, 10-day closure of Van Nuys Airport’s 8,000-foot primary runway, 16R/34L, will begin tonight (PST) during the final phase of a $20.5 million improvement project that began last February. The closure will begin on Tues., July 16, at 10 p.m. to prepare the runway for work that will officially commence on July 17 at 12:01 a.m. This project phase will conclude on Fri, July 26 at 11:59 p.m.

Civilian Performers Vital To The Air Show Industry
A recent news release from the U.S. Air Force indicates that Congress has approved a shifting of some funds to allow the return of the USAF Thunderbirds to basic proficiency flying status. Their counterparts on the Navy side of the universe have all along been funded to maintain at least basic pilot proficiency in a minimum number of practice flights.
