Five EAA Chapters Have Been Chosen To Receive Wings As Part Of The Give Flight Project At EAA AirVenture This Year

This report is all about what EAA calls the Give Flight project to be held during EAA AirVenture 2015. As a follow-on to the immensely popular One Week Wonder project last year, this year three manufacturers have donated 5 sets of wings for their aircraft to be built during the AirVenture week.

The volunteer-based project will occur at the main crossroads of the EAA AirVenture grounds on Celebration Way. Volunteers will construct the wings on each of the seven days of the convention, and anyone who walks by can participate by pulling a rivet. The completed wings being given to EAA chapters to complete the remainder of the airplane. The 3 companies participating in the project are Sonex, Vans, and Zenith.

EAA chapters that were interested in receiving a set of wings submitted applications for review. Last week, EAA announced the 5 EAA chapters that will receive the wings. They are:

• Chapter 461-Bolingbrook, Illinois             Zenith CH750 Cruzer wings
• Chapter 245-Ottawa, Ontario, Canada     Zenith CH750 Cruzer wings
• Chapter 84-Snohomish, Washington        Zenith CH650 wings
• Chapter 27-Meriden, Connecticut             RV-12 wings
• Chapter 555-Las Cruces, New Mexico     Sonex Waiex wings

“The Give Flight project provides a platform to talk up two of EAA’s core offerings:  homebuilding and chapters,” said Charlie Becker, EAA director of chapters, communities, and homebuilt community manager. “By encouraging attendees to come by and pull a rivet on a wing that will eventually be a completed aircraft, we are hoping to open some eyes to the idea of building an aircraft.

In a message speaking to the EAA chapters, Becker added, “Since the wings are being given to five chapters it will also be a great opportunity to talk about joining your local chapter.”
