XPrize Cup: NM Governor Predicts Rocket Racer's Popularity To Equal NASCAR's

Governor Richardson Enthusiastically Unveils First Rocket Racing Aircraft

Governor Bill Richardson flew into Las Cruces airport Friday to participate in the XPrize Cup activities by unveiling the first Rocket Racing League aircraft.

After awarding the Rocket Racing naming contest winner Mike Higgins his prize, a leather flight jacket, the Governor did not waste any time letting the media know exactly how he feels about space exploration.

"America is regaining its leadership in space," said Governor Richardson. "A new era is starting right here in Las Cruces." Richardson was accompanied by former astronaut Buzz Aldrin and Peter Diamandis of the XPrize Foundation.

"Buzz Aldrin says it is the right thing to do," Richardson added.

"We took some risks, but it's paying off. The best part is that all this will inspire young people."

Richardson went on to explain that science and mathematics will be the key to successful private space exploration, and the United States must encourage young people to excel in these fields of education.

To the delight of the media and spectators gathered around him, he then made a bold prediction, stating that "Rocket Racing League is going to be as popular as NASCAR." The question that now begs to be answered is whether the Rocket Racing League pilots will make turns to the left, or to the right.

A rocket scientist may be needed to answer that one.
