Boeing In Striking Distance Of Dreamliner Production Goals

Has Delivered 79 787s Through Three Quarters Of 2014

Boeing officials say the company is on track to meet its 2014 production goals for the Dreamliner, barring any unforeseen issues that might arise during the next three months.

The Post and Courier newspaper in South Carolina reports that while Boeing spokesman Doug Alder would not say definitively that the goal of delivering 110 airplanes this year would be met, he did tell the paper that there have been 79 of the composite-construction airplanes handed over to customers so far this year. Alder said that the issue of production goals would be addressed during in the company's third quarter earnings report to be released October 22.

Boeing currently assembles the 787-8 in both its North Charleston, SC and Everett, WA plants. Next month, assembly of the first 787-9 to be manufactured in North Charleston is expected to begin. That airplane is currently being built exclusively in Everett. The 787-10 Dreamliner will be built only in South Carolina starting in 2017.

Boeing currently has more than 1,000 orders for the Dreamliner on its books.
