UAL Cuts Flights, Pilots Review Concession Package

United Airlines, mired in bankruptcy for two years now, has cut flights to more than 25 cities as pilot sat down Monday to look over the company's latest request for wage concessions.

The airline announced it will cut seat capacity overall by about 12-percent, but would raise the number of seats available on international flights by about 14-percent.

The Rocky Mountain news reports analysts are rather pleased at the notion of cutting UAL flights from Denver, saying the move would not only help United, but also its chief rival at DIA, Frontier Airlines.

In the meantime, leaders of United's ALPA unit are considering the airline's latest wage cut proposal -- just as the company's flight attendants are making loud noises about a possible strike. United proposes the following cuts in wage and benefits:

  • Pilots: $191.1 million
  • Baggage Handlers, Agents: $180 million
  • Flight Attendants: $137.6 million
  • Mechanics/Aircraft Cleaners: $111.8 million
  • Non-Union, Management: $3 million
