Air Show Pilot John Mohr Quietly Retires

Considered One Of The Industry's Premier Stearman Pilots

Several online sources are confirming that air show pilot John Mohr, considered one of the best Stearman pilots performing around the country, has quietly hung up his leather helmet and goggles, at least as a professional.

Joel Love, writing on the electronic bulletin board Fence Check, said he had confirmed Morh's retirement with the pilot's wife Lynn. The couple reportedly jointly made the decision last year, but decided to keep it quiet so that they could perform normally this past season without all the attention the announcement would have brought. She said four decades ago they came into the airshow business quietly, and that was the way they wanted to leave it.

The blog The Aero Experience, which focuses on aviation in the midwest, notes that Mohr had won both the ICAS Art Scholl Memorial Showmanship Award and the Bill Barber Award during his air show career.

According to his website, Mohr began learning to fly at the age of 5. He said of the success he and his wife have had with their business … Mohr Barnstorming … "We found a niche in the industry that enabled us to turn our passion into a profession."
