EAA Chapter 534 Hosts CAP Event
During a June visit to EAA Chapter 534’s hangar on Leesburg, Florida’s Leesburg International Airport (LEE), young members of the Civil Air Patrol’s (CAP) Lake Composite Squadron (FL021) were provided overviews of careers within the aviation and aerospace industries to which they might aspire upon reaching college age.
The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is a congressionally-chartered, federally-supported, non-profit, largely-volunteer U.S. Air Force Auxiliary organization about the noble endeavor of inspiring and facilitating the contributions of private citizens to the public welfare. By organizing and maintaining a network of pilots and aircraft capable of responding alacritously and in perpetuity to local and national emergencies, the CAP saves lives while fostering interest in civil aviation among American youth.
EAA Chapter 534 vice-president John Weber arranged to have chapter members of varying aviation and aerospace backgrounds give presentations pertaining to their respective careers and the challenges and rewards peculiar to such.
Speakers representing the aircraft mechanic, flight instructor, corporate and airline pilot, and military aviation sectors made engaging, informative, and well-received presentations during which they set forth the enormous opportunities available throughout today’s aviation and aerospace industries. The presentations ended with lively question-and-answer sessions.
In addition to providing EAA literature to the CAP members, Mr. Weber explained the purposes and functions of Squadron 534, the Chapter 534’s aviation youth group, and Young Eagles programs.
As several Chapter members serve, also, as CAP leaders, a close connection exists between EAA Chapter 534 and the CAP squadron. The two organizations are united in the purpose of educating and inspiring future generations of aviation and aerospace professionals, thereby ensuring the cadence of dramatic advancement by which aviation’s first century was characterized is maintained in perpetuity.
