Intel Bets $60 Million On Yuneec UAVs

Krzanich Calls Investment A 'Game Changer'

In a video presentation posted on YouTube, Intel CEO Brian Krzanich announced that the chipmaker would be investing $60 million in Chinese UAV maker Yuneec.

"At Intel, we believe in a smart and connected world," Krzanich said at the start of the video, "and one of the best ways to bring that smart and connected world to everyone, and everywhere, is drones."

Krzanich said that the investment in the Chinese UAV maker Yuneec would be a "game changer in the drone industry. We've got drones on our roadmap that are going to truly change the world and revolutionize the drone industry."

Yuneec founder and CEO Tien Yu said that the company's current line includes such features and built-in screens for FPV and "smart mode" which makes them easy for beginners to fly.

The announcement included no details about what may be on the drawing boards, or how Intel's investment will be used.
