Flybig First Twin Otter Series 400 Operator in India
De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited inked a deal for a pair of 'Twotters' with flybig, a small carrier in India.
The Purchase Agreement will see the delivery of 2 Twin Otter Series 400 aircraft, but an additional Letter of Interest could see flybig acquire 10 new DHC-6 Twin Otter Classic 300-G aircraft. De Havilland was happy for a chance to make some waves with a fresh order, pointing out the headway they've made in updating the classic Twin Otter in the 300-G, the most up-to-date version of the twin turboprop. The long-serving aircraft's name has become quite a mouthful as it became the 5th generation of the Twin Otter line. Despite the mildly convoluted nomenclature it's still got those Otter genes where it counts, boasting the same reliable backcountry character that De Havillands have had for decades. The company bills the 5th gen (or 300-G, as they call it) as an excellent multifunction aircraft, whether carrying passengers, VIPs, cargo, medical patients, or a range of slate-gray ISR snooping equipment.
“We are proud to welcome flybig as our first Twin Otter Series 400 operator in India, and for them to explore a potential future purchase of 10 new DHC-6 Twin Otter Classic 300-G aircraft,” said Brian Chafe, Chief Executive Officer, De Havilland Canada. “Helping connect remote communities is at the heart of what these aircraft are all about.”
“Twin Otters are the perfect aircraft for India’s UDAN regional airport development program, part of the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) for improving underserviced air routes and connecting Tier 2 and Tier 3 communities,” said Sanjay Mandavia, Chairman and Managing Director of flybig. “Our two Series 400 aircraft will help realize our Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to connect India’s hinterland, and we are looking forward to working with De Havilland Canada on potential future acquisitions of the new Classic 300-G.”
