NATA Congratulates Senators Dorgan, Demint On Aviation Subcommittee Assignments

Coyne Says Both Have Been Adovcates For GA

West Virginia Senator John J. Rockefeller IV, chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation and Ranking Member Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) announced Thursday the new chairman, Senator Byron Dorgan (D-ND), and ranking member, Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC), of the Aviation Subcommittees for the 111th Congress.

National Air Transportation Association (NATA) President James K. Coyne, on behalf of the association's 2000 member companies, congratulated Senator Dorgan and Senator DeMint Thursday for being selected as the new leaders of the aviation subcommittee.

Dorgan is serving a third term in the US Senate after six terms in the US House of Representatives. He is a senior member of the Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation and is the former chairman of the Subcommittee on Interstate Commerce, Trade and Tourism.

"NATA looks forward to continuing its work with Senator Dorgan on critical issues facing general aviation, including passage of a long-term FAA Reauthorization bill and standardization of regulatory interpretations by the Federal Aviation Administration, which are becoming more costly to aviation business every year," Coyne said.

DeMint was elected to the US Senate in 2004 after serving in the US House of Representatives. DeMint is also a senior member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation.

"Senator DeMint has been a great advocate for small businesses and general aviation," stated Coyne. "NATA is pleased to work with the senator on issues facing this important sector of the American economy."
