Captain Kevin Domon-Grenier Reported OK On The Ground
A member of the much vaunted CF Snowbird Military Jet Demonstration Team has ejected from his aircraft just prior to the start of a performance at the Atlanta Air Show.
Officials have now canceled the rest of the events.
The Snowbirds reported via social media that, "Snowbird 5, Capt Kevin Domon-Grenier was forced to eject from his aircraft shortly before our performance in Atlanta this afternoon. Capt Domon-Grenier made it safely to the ground and is okay. The aircraft fell in an unpopulated area and no one was injured."
The Fayette County Sheriff reports that the impact area is 13 miles southwest of the race track in the 600 block of Grant Road near Brooks, Georgia.
A social media statement from the USAF Thunderbirds notes that, "The team is deeply relieved to learn that Snowbird 5, Capt Kevin Domon-Grenier, is safe and that no one was injured following today’s incident at the Atlanta Air Show. Our thoughts are with the Snowbird team as they expertly handle this mishap. Today’s performance is cancelled."
The CF Snowbirds fly the single-engine CT-114 Tutor.
The 3rd Annual Atlanta Air Show, was on the schedule for October 12-13, and uses the Atlanta Motor Speedway as a focal point for the event. This year's festivities featured both the USAF Thunderbirds and the CF Snowbirds in a rare double mil-team showcase. Kent Pietsch and the GEICO Skytypers were among some of the other acts on the schedule, which was also fairly well populated with warbird displays and flybys.
