Jeppesen Teams With China Eastern With FliteDeck Pro, Other Digital Solutions
The Civil Aviation Administration of China recently granted authorization to China Eastern Airlines to operate in a fully digital capacity, using Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro as part of its electronic flight bag (EFB) solution. Jeppesen teamed with China Eastern to gain the milestone authorization, as China Eastern is the first airline in China to achieve paperless operating status.
"Using Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro for charting and navigation with our international operations and our domestic NAIP charting data for flights within China provides the foundation for gaining this landmark clearance from the Civil Aviation Administration of China," said Mr. Hou Jianjun, managing director, China Eastern Airlines AOC. "We are proud to be the first airline in China to fly in a fully digital capacity and our partnership with Jeppesen made this vision a reality."
Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro helps airlines streamline the delivery of flight information and establish paperless flight deck operations. Flight information, including worldwide navigation charts is delivered to Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro through the JDM Pro enterprise solution. This scalable global management solution distributes encrypted operational data and documents efficiently, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of current navigational and operational information to pilots and other users.
"Teaming with China Eastern to achieve paperless operations takes into account the innovative technical advances with EFB and navigation services established by both companies to make this possible," said Gardiner Porter, Jeppesen managing director & general manager, APAC. "Working closely together, we were able to understand the challenges that we faced and developed solutions to implement fully digital flight deck capabilities to serve China Eastern's domestic and global operations."
In addition to Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro, China Eastern also uses other digital Jeppesen services to increase operational efficiency. These include OpsData, providing on-demand aircraft operational analysis, flight planning services and Jeppesen's industry-leading NavData navigation information. These digital tools allow for more efficient operations, reduce fuel consumption based on eliminated paper flight material weight and increase pilot situational awareness on the ground and in the air.
China Eastern Airlines is headquartered in Shanghai. The airline operates a fleet of nearly 600 long-haul and short-haul aircraft. China Eastern served nearly 94 million travelers last year and ranks among the world's top seven airlines in terms of passenger transportation volume.
