Float Plane Damaged In Accident In New Hampshire

Officials Said It Flipped Over After 'Crash Landing' in Lake Monomonac

A Siai-Marchetti SM 1019 float plane went down last week on Lake Monomonac in Rindge, NH, flipping over after touching down in what was described by authorities as a "crash landing" and injuring the two people on board.

The airplane's 57-year old owner, a New Hampshire resident, and his 22-year-old passenger reportedly suffered only minor injuries in the accident, according to the Associated Press. Officials said about 40 gallons of fuel spilled into the lake as a result of the accident, and containment booms were placed around the wreckage in an effort to contain the spill.

The plane was removed from the lake last Wednesday, according to the report. The two people on board the airplane were rescued by a good Samaritan in a private boat and were not hospitalized.

Lake Monomonac is in the southern part of the state and straddles the border between New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

FAA records indicated that the airplane was registered as an "experimental" aircraft powered by an Allison 250-B15G engine. The listed owner is Earl Robertson of Rindge, NH.
