Version 4.7 Is Available In The App Store
There's a new version of ForeFlight Mobile available in the iTunes app store. The big feature in this release is Runway Proximity Advisor, a visual and audio alerting feature that advises you when ForeFlight Mobile predicts your aircraft is approaching, entering, or crossing a runway. Runway Proximity Advisor will display a visual alert on any ForeFlight screen and announce the name of the runway you are approaching, entering, or crossing.
ForeFlight Mobile is aware of hold-short locations and offsets (e.g. on high speed taxiways) for larger airports, resulting in more precise annunciations at those airports. The FAA-sponsored research at MITRE laid the groundwork for this helpful safety feature. ForeFlight enhanced the original deliverable by adding more airport coverage, corrections, and a commitment to ongoing maintenance of the underlying airport geospatial data. Runway Proximity Advisor works with either a standard or a Pro ForeFlight Mobile subscription.
Other highlights in ForeFlight Mobile 4.7:
- X-Plane 10 Integration: X-Plane 10.10 supports ForeFlight Mobile's new network GPS feature. This feature simulates a GPS feed from the X-Plane simulator, allowing for much more realistic flight training with ForeFlight Mobile before you even leave the ground.
- iPhone 5 Support: One of the most obvious features of the new iPhone is the taller screen. ForeFlight Mobile has been updated to make use of the extra room so airport or map data is that much easier to access.
- Faster Scratchpad: the Scratchpad on iPad was revamped for better speed and support for multiple "pen" sizes.
- Expanded Keyboard: Always looking to reduce the number of taps, ForeFlight Mobile now provides an extra row of number keys on the keyboard to make searches and performance data noticeably easier to type.
ForeFlight Mobile 4.7 is a free update for existing customers. Version 4.7 requires iOS 5.1 or higher. This release also includes important bug fixes, and the update is recommend for all users update.
Finally, the company says it is excited to announce ForeFlight Documents for Flight Ops, a document distribution solution for flight operations that simplifies delivery of operating handbooks, aircraft manuals, and other documents from the cloud to pilots.
If you are attending the AOPA Summit in Palm Springs, CA, or NBAA in Orlando, FL, ForeFlight invites you to visit their booth for a walk through of these new features and to answer any questions.
