Model Aircraft Enthusiasts And Full-Scale Aircraft Pilots Will Find Something Of Interest At The AMA Expo January 8-10
The Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA), the world’s largest community-based organization of model aircraft enthusiasts, will be hosting the 18th annual AMA Expo on January 8-10, 2016 at the Ontario Convention Center. The AMA Expo is an opportunity for media, hobbyists, and the general public to experience firsthand the latest advancements in unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) technology and products.
The Expo will include more than one hundred exhibitors, as well as flying demonstrations and family-oriented model aircraft ‘Make-n-Take’ sessions with Flite Test. This year’s event will also feature a speaker series, including: Albion H. Bowers, Chief Scientist at NASA; Representatives from Flite Test; Adam Woodworth, technical lead on Google [x]’s Project Wing; Mike Leggett on building B17G; and Kevin Shaeffer, Wounded Warrior Project.
And here’s some good news for EAA members that either have, or about the catch the model aircraft bug. EAA members can receive discounted admission at the Academy of Model Aeronautics Expo.
EAA CEO Jack Pelton, along with Vice President of Communities and Member Programs Rick Larsen and Vice President of Advocacy and Safety Sean Elliot, will also be in attendance to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with AMA. The signing is scheduled for Saturday, January 9 at 11:30 a.m. at the main stage.
As one EAA member, Earl Downs, recounted, “I’m more nervous about test flying my RC model aircraft than I was when I test flew my homebuilt Zenith Zodiac. Model aircraft flying can open up a whole new world to full-scale aviators.”
