Pegasus Power Systems Demonstrates O-100 Engine

Static Run For New Ultralight Power Plant

Pegasus Power Systems has posted a video on YouTube showing the first run of its new O-100 engine designed for the ultralight market.

The engine has been in development since 2011, according to company founder Pete Plumb. According to the website, the engine ... which will be sold as a kit ... will weigh 105 pounds and develop about 60 horsepower with a 100 cubic inch displacement. In a post dated October 4, 2012, Plumb said that the components in the kit are designed to accept stock Continental O-200 parts, e.g.: cylinders, valves, accessory case, intake tubes and rubber connectors, bearings, gaskets, gears, lifters, pushrods, oil tank etc. 

Plumb wrote at the time that the stock O-200 oil tank is unnecessarily large (6 qt) and heavy for this engine, and the smaller, lighter A-65 tanks (4 qt) are rare and expensive. The company designed a special 2 1/2 qt., low profile tank specifically for this engine. "It won’t be part of the kit but will be available from our Pegasus Web Store when we get up and running (pun intended)," Plumb wrote.

The test engine incorporates dual 4301 Slick magnetos and harnesses with UREM40E spark plugs. Testing will be done with a Zenith-Bendix 32 mm industrial carburetor.

In a video posted on his website in May, Plumb said that the production parts for the engine are "at the foundries" being fabricated while he conducts the engine test program.

In 2012, Plumb said the engine kit would cost about $3,000, and the pricing information has not been updated.
