Man Allegedly Kills Ferret In Airport

Charged With Misdemeanor Animal Abuse

Authorities allege a man beat his pet ferret to death after he was told he couldn't take it on an airplane.

Stefan Albrecht of Yonkers, N.Y. is charged in St. Louis with misdemeanor animal abuse.

Authorities say Albrecht smuggled the small weasel-like animal on to an American Airlines flight from New York to St. Louis earlier this month in a carryon cooler.

A Ferret? Security Risk?

When flight attendants realized he had the animal, they told him he couldn't take it on to his connecting flight to Phoenix. The airline says it offered to take the animal to the Humane Society.

But when the plane landed for a layover in St. Louis, authorities say, Albrecht allegedly took the ferret to an airport restroom, broke its neck and flushed it down a toilet. He then told airline workers what he had done.
