Airborne 02.25.19: Aerobatic Championship, Speedy 787, ANN's April 1st Edition

Also: Bored Pilot, Indian Air Force Jets Collide, Max-Viz 2300 EVS, FAA UAS Symposium Rescheduled

A formal Nationals Site Review Process was ordered by the International Aerobatic Club Board of Directors at the annual Fall Board meeting in November of 2018 in order to find a new home for the aerobatic world’s national contest.

Forty-four centrally located airports were assessed including previous U.S. Nationals sites, Sherman-Denison, Texas, and Oshkosh, Wisconsin. On February 15, the IAC Board of Directors met by teleconference, where the Board voted unanimously to select Salina, Kansas, as the location for the 2019 US Nationals. The contest dates have been confirmed for Saturday, September 21 through Friday, September 27th. A roaring jet stream traveling at more than 230 mph over the eastern US last week appears to have helped push a Virgin Atlantic Boeing 787-9 to a record speed for the airplane ... 801 miles per hour. The flight was traveling from Los Angeles to London, at 35,000 feet over Pennsylvania when it encountered massive tailwinds. And while it didn't stay in the zone for long, it did help the flight arrive at its destination about 48 minutes early. ANN seeks YOUR help in getting a little crazy!
