MH-60 Black Hawk Helicopter Down In Iraq

At Least One Fatally Injured In The Accident

An MH-60 Black Hawk helicopter went down in Iraq early Monday, resulting in the fatal injury of at least one of the 10 people on board.

Newsweek reports that U.S. military sources said that the aircraft was returning to its base after conducting a small-scale arid at an undisclosed location as part of ongoing counterterrorism operations.

U.S. Army Colonel Sean Ryan confirmed the accident, but said he had no other information. A military official who requested anonymity told Newsweek that there was no enemy ground fire in the area of the accident.

An unnamed military official said that three others involved in the accident were evacuated to Baghdad, and two were classified as "continuing mission", meaning their injuries were not serious or they were uninjured and could return to duty.

The name of the fatally injured service member is being withheld pending notification of relatives.
