Dorm Sprinklers Tripped By Baylor Student's RC Helo

Some Students May Have To Be Moved To Temporary Housing

You can almost hear the student's mom saying "how many times have I told you not to fly that thing in the house!" An RC helicopter being flown by a student in campus housing at Baylor University in Waco, TX, set off the building's sprinkler system. Water from the sprinklers on the second floor where the flight took place ran down into the first floor, and you can guess the result.

The online site Our Town Texas reports that the water flow alarm went out about 4:35 Monday afternoon. Waco firefighters arrived at the campus housing building to find a lot of water, but no fire. University spokeswoman Lori Fogelman said that the damage is being assessed, and that any students displaced by the flood will be accommodated in temporary housing.

The incident occurred on the first day of the Spring Semester. Some 254 students live in the building, named Heritage House. Many of them are in the school's Engineering and Computer Science Living-Learning Center program. The residence hall was built on a site that for 79 years was occupied by the Second Baptist Missionary Church.
