Republic Airline Fundraiser Back for 2022

Teams Compete to Hand-Pull Embraer E170 for Children's Charity

Republic Airways announced its 10th annual Plane Pull to raise money for a variety of children's charities. The event raised $3 million since its inception, and this year is hoped to beat every previous record by leaps and bounds. Charities in the Indianapolis area that will see assistance include A Kid Again, Indiana Wish, Riley Children’s Foundation and Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at Ascension St. Vincent.

The Plane Pull got its start in honor of a young leukemia patient, Tyler Frenzel, in order to contribute to the care and health of kids fighting life-threatening illnesses in the state. The pull has been out of commission amid pandemic worries, with 2022 being the first time since 2019 to bring back its aid to the community. The event is free to attend, whether participating or watching teams of ten speed their way across a whole 15-feet of pavement...while tugging a 24-ton Embraer E170 behind them. For children looking to imitate them, a LIFT Academy Diamond DA42 will be ready for them to try their hand at being a human tug. Other activities with the school, vendors, and aviation exhibits from around the airport will be on hand for a fun Saturday.

“After taking a hiatus the past two years due to the pandemic, we are thrilled to host this incredible event once again in support of children in our community,” said Amy Arnell, Director of Corporate and Community Responsibility for Republic Airways. "While the event itself is fun for people of all ages, and people playing tug-of-war with an airline jet is certainly a sight to see, it’s even more rewarding to see the individuals who are positively impacted by this unique fundraiser.”

Interested teams must raise or donate a minimum of $2,000 before April 1 in order to participate. A minimum 3-woman portion of each 10-person roster must be included for team prize eligibility. Groups, friends, organizations, churches, and more have proven to be an excellent basis for participation. The pull will take place on April 23, with a Plane Pull Gala the night before, with silent and live auctions to also raise money for the kids.
