L-3's GH-3100 ESIS Selected For New Twin Otter Series Aircraft

Also Available For Retrofit On S-76s, PC-12

L-3 Avionics Systems announced Monday its GH-3100 Electronic Standby Instrument System (ESIS) has been selected as standard equipment on the all-new Twin Otter Series 400 aircraft. Canada’s Viking Air Limited is resuming production of the aircraft, which is expected to be delivered before April 2009.

"Our durable GH-3100 is a perfect fit for the Twin Otter, which has historically operated in harsh environments that require rugged equipment to stand up to the elements," said Larry Riddle, vice president of business development for L-3 Avionics Systems. "Twin Otters also have a strong international presence, which puts our global product support network in a good position to keep their new fleet flying."

Twin Otter Series 400 aircraft will be an updated version of the aging Series 300 model and will feature more powerful engines, composite parts that reduce weight, and a modern glass cockpit avionics package. The GH-3100 is a solid state standby instrument designed to help pilots fly safely in emergency situations. Information such as altitude, attitude, airspeed and heading is combined with GPS, FMS and radio navigation data in a layout similar to the primary flight displays.

This familiar display eases the shift to standby instruments. A single GH-3100 provides situational information to navigate an aircraft to safety, even in instrument conditions.

The GH-3100 is also available on STC for Sikorsky's S-76 A-C helicopters from with Pro Star Aviation, as well as for the Pilatus PC-12 from Kansas City Aviation Center

L-3 Avionics Systems has been helping pilots fly for more than 45 years and provides completely integrated cockpit solutions. The company’s SmartDeck Integrated Flight Controls and Display System is a glass panel suite that features a revolutionary user interface designed to make flying safer, easier and more enjoyable.

In addition to customizing SmartDeck for upcoming aircraft programs, L-3 Avionics continues to provide a wide array of avionics safety technologies, such as the GH-3000 electronic and J.E.T. standby instruments, SkyWatch collision avoidance system and Stormscope lightning detection system, among others.
