Navy Releases Names Of Pilots In T-34C Downing

Instructor, Student Both From USMC

The Navy has released the names of the crew members killed in the March 14, 2008 downing of a T-34 Turbomentor near Ashville, AL. The deceased are Maj. David Yaggy, instructor pilot, and 2nd Lt. Alexander Prezioso, both from the US Marine Corps.

The two Marines were members of Training Squadron 6 at Naval Air Station Whiting Field.

Yaggy, 34, was a native of Sparks, Md. and a combat decorated UH-1N Huey pilot with 10 Air Medals and a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with combat "V".

Prezioso, 23, was a native of Lake Worth, FL and a 2006 graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He was a student in primary flight training at the base, and had been a Marine for nearly two years.

As ANN reported, the Turbomentor impacted mountainous terrain at approximately 1,500 feet MSL. Local media described conditions at the accident site, at the base of Chandler Mountain, as "foggy."

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
