Even Our Allies Are A Little Sensitive

Qatar Keeps USAF Low-Profile

As Arab nations try to band together in the hopes of preventing war in Iraq, as many of them refuse allied fighters and bombers overfligtht permission, Qatar is making sure US Air Force operations are kept under wraps.

In Qatar... American flyers don't talk to the media. They don't want to upset public opinion, already tense in a nation supposedly one of our staunchest allies in the Gulf.

Baghdad, which seems to command much sympathy in the Arab world, has said it will treat any American ally as an enemy of Iraq.

The USAF is flying F-117 Stealth Fighters and F-15 Strike Eagles from the airport at al-Udeid. Air Force personnel are also stationed at the international airport in Qatar's capitol, Doah.
