Cites Accident During Shoreham Airshow In August As The Reason
The 2015 Manchester Airshow, which in July was the first to be held at City Airport, Manchester in Barton, Salford in England in 20 years, may have also been the last.
Citing the accident at the Shoreham Airshow in August in which a Hawker Hunter T7 jet (pictured) went down resulting in the fatal injury of 11 people on the ground, the organizers of the Manchester Airshow have said there will be no event in 2016.
"We would like to thank everyone that attended the 2015 Manchester Airshow. We received a phenomenal response from the event," said a statement posted on the airshow website.
"Following the tragic accident at Shoreham Airshow in 2015, the Civil Aviation Authority are currently conducting a full review of Airshow regulations. While the organizers of the Manchester Airshow believe that our venue remains suitable for an Airshow Event, safety is our utmost priority, and the potential outcomes of this review may impact upon the feasibility of organizing future air shows at City Airport.
"The team will review any new regulations that are introduced, and once these are understood, a decision will be made as to the possibility of bringing a return of the Manchester Airshow to the skies above City Airport at a later date. Due to the timing of the review, it is with regret that we will be unable to host a full Manchester Airshow in 2016.
"We would like to thank all our supporters of the Airshow. The Airport will be hosting other events during 2016 and details of these will be published in due course at the Airport website."
