Alcohol A Possible Factor In Wisconsin Accident

Cessna 150 Aerobat Left Dangling In The Trees

A 1969 Cessna Aerobat went down late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning near Stangelville, WI, resulting in the serious injury of its pilot/owner.

In a new release, Kewaunee County Sheriff Matt Joski said:

"Charles Green, 38, walked to a nearby home in the town of Franklin and asked for medical help shortly after 2:30 a.m., after his 1969 Cessna crashed in the woods southwest of the intersection of Kewaunee County J and Sleepy Hollow Road.

"Green flew from West Bend to Manitowoc on Wednesday, then planned to fly back to West Bend. Witnesses reported hearing a low-flying plane in the area of the crash about 10:40 p.m. Wednesday. A rescue call went out at 2:43 a.m. Green was treated by Franklin First Responders and Viking Rescue, then taken to a Green Bay hospital.

"The plane was found at 7:21 a.m., about a mile from where the rescue call was made.

The Green Bay Press Gazette reports that the sheriff said that alcohol was a possible contributing factor in the accident.

FAA records indicate that the airplane was registered to Mr. Green. According to the FAA's preliminary accident report, the airplane went down in a wooded area in Denmark, WI, which is about 10 miles by road from Stangelville. Green was the only person on board. The FAA listed his injuries as "serious." The wreckage has been moved to Austin Straubel International Airport in Ashwaubenon, WI, where it will be examined by the NTSB.
