ANN's Quote of the Day usually
derives from current news, though we reserve the right to pick
quotes out of history that have a bearing on the day's events and
issues.
Sometimes, you'll find them timely and in keeping with the
content of the day's news... and sometimes, they'll just be
thought-provoking.
Reader suggestions and comments are welcome... and if
particularly intriguing, timely, or poignant, may themselves become
future Quotes of the Day.
Let us hear from you, folks!
Aero-News Quote of the Day
"The FAA put out a job announcement just last month that
attracted 3,000 applicants in 15 days. The overwhelming response
for new air traffic controller positions highlights the enthusiasm,
passion and determination of our applicants. They are ready to work
and we want to get them processed and in training as soon as
possible."
Source: FAA Acting Administrator Bobby
Sturgell. In what the agency terms an effort to streamline the
application process for air traffic controllers, the FAA announced
Friday it has created consolidated screening and testing centers to
provide "one stop shopping" for prospective new employees. Dubbed
Pre-Employment Processing Centers (PEPCs,) the centers couple
screening and testing, and can rotate to the FAA facilities where
prospective controllers are interviewed. The National Air Traffic
Controllers Association, however, believes that even if more
controllers are hired under the FAA's new program, more quickly
than before, they'll still find they're entering a hostile work
environment.
