Airborne-NextGen 07.11.23: Joby Cert Plans, Merlin Trial, Webb Space Telescope

Joby Aviation, builder of eVTOL aircraft, announced that it has submitted the entirety of its certification plan to the FAA, thereby occasioning the imminent completion of the third of the five stages upon which FAA certification of new aircraft types is predicated. Previously; the FAA awarded Merlin a $1-million contract for purpose of demonstrating the capabilities of its autonomous flight architecture, dubbed Merlin Pilot, under the auspices of onboard safety pilots. USCG Evacuates Cardiac Arrest Victim from Gulf Oil Rig

On Sunday, 09 July, the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) evacuated a crew member from an oil rig some 88-miles off the Gulf coast of Freeport, Texas. Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston command center watchstanders received a notification at 05:46 CDT that a 50-year-old oil rig crewman was experiencing symptoms of cardiac arrest and was in acute need of medical assistance.
